I did a fundraiser event for the Surrey SPCA a little while ago with ADERA DEVELOPMENTS that was promoted by Rachel Thexton of DUNN PR. While we were there, Rachel mentioned she was thinking of something like this with the actual shelter animals and I was very excited to start the planning. We contacted Lorie Chortyk of the BC SPCA and started to pull things together for this fun Pup-a-Razzi event where photographers all over BC at various SPCA branches would photograph the shelter animals to show them in the best light possible for their photos on the adoptable pages. I stopped in and took a sample photo of a beautiful dog, Roxie as they may be seen with an unprofessional photo of her in her kennel and then one with professional lighting that shows what Roxie truly looks like. I was happy to see that by the time I came back for this event Roxie had already found her forever home.
There were lots of sweet pets there waiting to find their forever homes on May 16th though and it was great fun meeting and photographing all of them. For animals that may have been too stressed out by the studio setting, I went to the space they were staying in and took photos there as well. The BC SPCA has already put up the gallery of photos from each location HERE and my images can be seen in the Vancouver branch section. DGTV also did a spotlight feature video which can be viewed HERE for those who are interested in seeing what the day was all about!
I really hope that we can do this again next year and am so overwhelmed and thrilled with the great response from photographers and the public about this project! Extra special thank you’s to Rachel Thexton, Lorie Chortyk, the wonderful staff of the SPCA, all the other photographers who volunteered to take part in this project as well and last, but not least, to all the sweet little furbellies that came out to pose for their glamour shots!
Since May is Adoption Awareness Month at the SPCA I would like to offer 10% off all pet sessions to photograph new furry family members for anyone who adopts a pet from the SPCA in the months of May or June 2012. Please let me know in your email that you would like this discount (mentioned here and on facebook) to receive your discounted session!
