Holy smokes am I EVER behind on blogging.  I use my business account to keep everyone up to date these days most of the time, but when I can I like to try to get caught up over here as well. This post has been a LONG time coming, but I try to make sure I blog every session I do unless I don’t have a model release.

I have been part of the Lower Mainland Branch committee for the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) for a couple of years now. Most recently, this year I have taken over role as chair of the committee. Last year I really wanted to organize a “big name” speaker to come and talk to our local members and give us something to get excited about! Since I had just done Scott Robert Lim’s Bahamas tour, seen him at WPPI and done Image Explorations with him on Vancouver Island the year prior I knew that he was just the guy for the job! I asked if he would be interested and he jumped right in. He stayed with us so I had a blast hanging out with one of my favourite mentors and the master of the use of off camera flash. Here are a few shots we took at Granville Island of our models during the demonstration part of his class that day.

Huge thank you to Scott for coming all the way up here and sharing so much knowledge with our members! I hope we can do it again sometime soon!

Mother

Mother’s Day is coming up May 12th!  We are having Mommy and Me Mini Sessions May 18th to celebrate all the wonderful and special Mamas in your life!  Please email me at info@ashleighwellsphotography.com to book your sessions.  Limited time slots available so book soon to avoid disappointment!  These sessions are great for moms, daughters, grandmas, or any woman who has made a special impact in your life.  Too often moms are behind the camera and don’t have enough photos of them with their most precious gifts, their children.  As a mom myself (even as a photographer), even I find it tough to get on the other side of the lens, but I try to make it a point to get at least a few photos of me and my daughter each year.  They grow so fast!  The image below I set up and the lovely Trina Letawsky of Trina Lianne Photography was kind enough to take the shot for me.  Even though I rarely feel “put together” enough for a portrait, this is how our children know us.  As we are.  The most important people in their lives are their parents.  If anything should ever happen to me, I like knowing that my child will be able to look back and remember who we were, what our relationship was and to feel our bond through the images so many photographers have taken of us.  HAPPY EARLY MOTHER’S DAY!

*Sessions held at the studio. Limited to babies and children 6 months and older due to time constraints.  Completed payment reserves your time slot.  Not to be combined with any other coupons or discounts. Sessions may be rescheduled due to sickness or at the photographer’s discretion.

Another Watch Me Grow Collection baby is all grown up!  They grow so much in a year that many people want to capture each of the three main milestone ages.  After that I usually only get to see them once a year or so for their yearly portrait sessions.  I miss seeing all the steps in between once they get to that point, but am so very grateful to be able to see it right before my eyes throughout that first year and I am honoured that families trust me to capture that important time for them.  This family was an absolute joy to work with and it didn’t hurt that they had such a GORGEOUS baby girl!

Her daddy is a police officer so they brought along her special forces rubber duckie.  One day it will be quite an intimidating feat to date this sweet girly haha!

This photo is not something I would normally choose, but as soon as I caught it her parents told me that this is a face she was making all the time at this age.  I’m always so happy when their true personalities come through and I can capture these little things that get forgotten too soon.

Early pigtails on girls always melt my heart!  I remember waiting and waiting for our daughter’s hair to grow long enough and when it finally did, she would rip them out as soon as I could put them in haha!

Her parents chose to make their storyboard all from this session.  I don’t blame them!  She was hamming it up!

Burnaby Veterinary hospital held a pet photo contest where I donated a studio session to the winner of the contest.  I was THRILLED to find out my photo shoot would be with the sweetest Scottish Fold kitten!  I have always loved this breed because they are so unique looking and they come with a very distinct personality to match.  She was certainly no exception.  Kittens can be really challenging to work with in the studio because they just want to explore everything and are rarely able to sit on command haha!  With a few tricks (string, feathers and tuna) and a LOT of patience from her mom, we got quite a few images for them to keep from the session and ended up having fun while trying to capture them too haha!  Thank you to Burnaby Veterinary Hospital and congratulations to the winner!
