FAQ
Q. What do I wear?
A. I have compiled galleries of ideas of what to wear for your session. There is one for FALL & WINTER and one for SPRING & SUMMER. You do not have to wear exactly what is shown, but it will give you an idea of how to coordinate outfits within a similar colour scheme.
My first main recommendation is to wear solids. Paw Patrol is great for playtime, but can pull the eye away from the faces of your beautiful family in the images we create or date your images. Solids help coordinate everyone, look great, and flatter all body types. Subtle prints can help tie colours together in some cases. If you are confident you have a good eye for this, or a patterned outfit is important to you, coordinating the other outfits around the one patterned piece is the best way to incorporate prints.
Woven materials are more flattering than jersey knit or t-shirt type materials that tend to cling to spots we usually would rather they didn’t. Sundresses, blouses or casual dress or even more formal dress shirts lend themselves well to flattering different body types and sitting nicely on many body types.
Jeans or khaki pants are usually a timeless look for more casual portraits. They are also conveniently already in most people’s wardrobes so it can save money when shopping for clothing for your session.
I recommend choosing a tonal range and then selecting 2-3 colours within that range that go to give some variety. For example, if you chose blue tones, have someone in white or cream, someone in light blue and someone in a darker shade of blue. Keep in mind your style and decor in your home. Choosing neutral tones is a good idea so that your wall art will coordinate with a variety of decor choices as trends change. This will ensure your images will fit with any changes you may make to your home over time.
I know it can feel frustrating attempting to coordinate a family’s look for a photography session, but I promise if you put in the time and invest in great pieces for your session, you will be happy with your artwork for a lifetime and it will help to prevent your images looking dated a few years down the road.
Some stores provide lines of clothing that will coordinate seasonally for entire families. My favourite stores to shop for sessions are:
-The Gap
-Zara
-Old Navy
-Banana Republic
-Aritzia (for women)
Q. I don’t feel like dying my hair, shaving my legs, putting on makeup, etc…you can fix it in photoshop right?
A. Can I? Yes. Will I? No. Please come prepared for your session. I include basic editing and retouching for things that are beyond our control (the odd pimple for human subjects or a piece of fluff we didn’t see while shooting). Things that are well within our control, I cannot spend hours editing. If you do decide to do this, there is an editing service I can hire and they charge approximately $50/hour for retouching so I can provide custom quotes if for some reason there is something that you do need adjusted later.
Q. What location options do we have?
A. I offer studio and on-location sessions. I travel within 25km radius of my Port Moody home studio for sessions. If you would like a location that is further there is a small travel fee, but I do travel for sessions if there is enough notice and I can get there.
